My Digital Camera

The camera that I use for my photography is the Nikon D300 Digital SLR. When I began looking for a D-SLR, I researched and tested out many different makes of cameras. However, the D300 was the most user-friendly, reliable, solid model that I found. I was also familiar with Nikons because of the time I spent working for Thaddius Bedford and Liquid Image, Inc( www.liquidimageinc.com ).

I have found Nikons to be the highest quality and most solidly built camera and I couldn't be happier with my D300's performance. Another appealing aspect with Nikons, is the fact that you can fit ANY Nikon lens to ANY model, no matter what year either one was built. So this is certainly a handy feature, seeing as I don't have to do as much hunting around for good lenses knowing that if it's Nikon, it will work with my camera. I mainly use two lenses - my Sigma 18-200 mm lens and my Nikon 50 mm. Nikons tend to be a bit heavier than some other models, but that is because most other companies have taken to making their camera bodies entirely out of plastic. Thus making them less sturdy and durable - at least in my personal opinion. I personally like to feel the weight of my camera and know that it can take a little bit of wear.

Store Description:

Introducing the D300 - the ultimate blend of image quality, quick response and go-anywhere mobility. A new 12.3 effective-megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor, Nikon's original EXPEED digital image processing concept, Scene Recognition System and the new Picture Control System advance all aspects of system performance. Setting the standards for the next-generation, the D300 achieves the best overall system balance of any DX-format D-SLR.

Features

12.3 megapixels: Take pictures like never before with the Nikon D300 Digital SLR Camera and the included 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. Developed to provide the highest level of DX-format photographic performance and assuring response needed for virtually any shooting conditions, the new 12.3 effective megapixel CMOS image sensor delivers compact Nikon DX-format system size and technology advantages. Its integrated analog-to-digital converter offers the ability to select between high quality 12-bit or 14-bit conversion, and its design encompasses a broad light sensitivity range of ISO 200 to 3200, (plus Lo 1, IS0 100 equivalent and Hi 1, IS0 6400 equivalent). High-speed output enables rapid continuous shooting and realizes the new Live View shooting modes. The Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) not only helps prevent moiré, color fringing and shifting, but also functions as part of Nikon's first self-cleaning sensor unit.

3.0" LCD screen: The 3.0-inch super density 920,000-dot VGA color monitor with 170-degree wide-angle viewing and tempered-glass protection makes critical image review possible.

3D focus tracking: Fast, accurate 51-point autofocus with 3D Focus Tracking and three Dynamic AF modes deliver exacting autofocus precision at blazing speeds.

Scene Recognition System (SRS): Nikon's exclusive SRS, with improved 1,005-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering II, provides even more intelligent auto exposure capabilities, along with smarter auto white balance detection and faster, more accurate AF performance.

Self-cleaning sensor Unit: The D300's dust-reduction system with the new self-cleaning sensor uses four different resonance frequencies to vibrate the OLPF in front of the image sensor and shake particles free.

18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G lens: The included lens offers broad 18-200mm focal range for use in a variety of situations (equivalent to a 27-300 lens in 35mm format). It has an 11x zoom coverage that offers a perfect compact and lightweight, one-lens solution. Two ED glass and three aspherical lens elements minimize chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion, while ensuring high resolution and contrast. Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) offers superb color reproduction while minimizing ghosting and flare. It incorporates a SWM (Silent Wave Motor) for fast, quiet focusing. The seven-blade rounded diaphragm opening achieves a natural blur for out-of-focus elements.
